We all have perfectly good intentions of taking our grocery list with us to the Publix supermarket and sticking to it. After all, it is well thought out, sensible and suits our budget. More often than not we find that as we get inside the store, there seem to be items everywhere designed to lure us away from our well planned list that we are clutching in our hand.
Writing out a shopping list and keeping to exactly what is on there may not be as much fun as just meandering around the shop and seeing what is on special this week, but it makes perfect economical sense.
A grocery list will make sure that we only get exactly what is needed and not buy anything on impulse. This can save a lot of wasted food as well as money that can be saved or spent elsewhere. Make sure that when you get to the shop you stick to buying exactly what is on the list.
A good idea is to have a small chalkboard or whiteboard hung up in the kitchen. As soon as you run out of anything write down what you need. You can either then transfer the list to paper or take a picture with your phone. This will make things so much easier when it is time to do your shop. You won’t waste as much time in the supermarket buying up all those tins of things that you will never use, just because they are on special.
If you take a look on the internet, there are some great grocery list templates that you can print out. This makes it even easier for you to keep within your budget and away from all the unnecessary junk that we tend to buy if we don’t have a list with us.
Deciding what you need, or when you notice that you have run out of something, a good idea is to write it into the notes on your phone. Most of us won’t leave the house without our phone so we can be sure we have all the details we need right there with us.
Get everybody who resides in the same house as you into the habit of making a note of what is needed when an item runs out. Everyone is then responsible and there can be no complaints that “there is no orange juice” or “why don’t we have any peanut butter”.
Shopping is seen by alot of people as a chore but just by something as simple as making out a grocery list, it can be alot less tedious and stressful.
